UK film and TV production claims £1.6bn in tax relief

UK film and high-end television productions claimed a combined £1.6bn in tax relief during 2024/25, according to new HM Revenue & Customs figures, as film claims reached an all-time high while high-end TV relief fell by 10%.

The figures, published today, show that film productions received £702m in relief from 1,145 claims during the financial year, a 39% increase on the previous year. High-end television received £936m from 830 claims, down from the previous year.

Together, film and HETV accounted for around two-thirds of the £2.45bn paid through the UK's creative industries tax relief and expenditure credit schemes in 2024/25.

Recent big projects to film in the UK include Universal Pictures' Jurassic World: Rebirth, Sony and Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, Netflix/Kudos' eight-part series House of Guinness, Universal Pictures' Wicked: For Good and Amazon Studios' Heads of State.
