Upcoming submission deadlines for Stream 1 – Selective production assistance for feature fiction films (Production assistance programme)
Submission dates, important details and reminder regarding the closure of projects supported in development
The Direction générale du développement et de la production audiovisuelle (Directorate-General for Audiovisual Development and Production) informs you of the upcoming submission dates for Stream 1 — Selective production assistance for feature fiction films of the production assistance programme. It also invites you to take note of important details concerning these next two submissions and an important reminder regarding the closure of projects that have received development support.
SODEC will welcome applications from eligible companies during the following periods:
Submission periods
1st submission of the 2027-2028 financial year
- Opening of the SOD@cès submission portal on 19 October 2026 and closing on 18 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Decision: 9 April 2027*
2nd submission of the 2027-2028 financial year
- July 2027 (exact date to be announced later)
* Approximate date. The date may vary depending on the volume of applications received.
Important details regarding eligible projects
A maximum of four projects may be submitted in compliance with the rules relating to parity, according to the specific conditions set out in the programme (page 12 of the programme), while complying with the following conditions:
- Projects with a total budget of less than $3.5M – NO MORE THAN 2 PROJECTS SUBMITTED per company, affiliated company or majority company;
- Projects with a total budget equal to or greater than $3.5M – NO MORE THAN 2 PROJECTS SUBMITTED per company, affiliated company or majority company.
1st submission
- New projects;
- Projects under appeal.
2nd submission
- New projects;
- Projects which, at Telefilm Canada: were accepted at the first submission, or received a green light advance there, or were placed on hold there, or are simply eligible there, and which SODEC deems suitable for reassessment within the framework of its own comparative review.
As a reminder: After a first refusal, SODEC reserves the right to determine the submission date at which the project may be submitted.
Allocation of the annual budgetary envelope
Please note that SODEC will reserve 60% of its available envelope for the December submission for the first comparative review, while retaining a flexibility margin of 5% to 10%, at its discretion and depending on available funds.
Reminder regarding the closure of projects supported in development
Companies wishing to submit an application under the submission closing on 18 November 2026 must submit all required elements no later than 19 October 2026 in order to allow the closure of their selective development assistance file.
This obligation does not apply to companies that have received 2024-2027 corporate support or transitional support. However, they are required to declare the amount allocated to the submitted project in the SOD@cès application form.
Reminder regarding the submission of applications
Applications must be submitted via the SOD@cès secure submission portal.
Before submitting your application, please first review the programme's eligibility criteria and then ensure that your file is complete and includes all required documents. Only complete and compliant applications will be reviewed. Read the Info-SODEC regarding the processing of incomplete applications.
