FAPA unveils the 15 successful applicants of its 1st call for projects
Launched in May 2026 at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi (Kenya) to support organisations working towards the training and mentoring of professionals, FAPA awards grants designed to promote the implementation of programmes dedicated to writers and producers who are nationals of sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti.
15 programmes selected from 44 applications
For this first edition, FAPA received 44 eligible applications from 14 countries: Benin, Canada, Central African Republic, France, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Following review of the files, the selection committee selected 15 mentoring programmes. The selection took place on 31 August 2026, online, in the presence of all FAPA partners and two independent experts. This first selection thus marks a new milestone for the fund, with projects from diverse geographical backgrounds and a representation of several film and audiovisual ecosystems.
An initiative backed by several partners
FAPA is supported by the CNC, in partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg (FFL), the Hellenic Film & Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece, the Institut français, the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and Wallonie-Bruxelles International (FWB-WBI), SACD, SACD in Belgium, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Telefilm Canada and SACD in Canada. For the year 2026, FAPA receives support from the French Ministry of Culture
The Fund also welcomes a new member since August: the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco. This integration reinforces FAPA's presence and roots on the African continent. Morocco's entry into FAPA is part of the ongoing commitments made at the 15th France-Morocco High-Level Meeting (HLM), where the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to working for the development and outreach of cinema and the audiovisual sector in Africa, notably through the training of writers and producers.
With this first call for projects, the fund thus intends to contribute to skills development and the structuring of career paths in the film and audiovisual sectors.
